From 19 to 23 March 2020 ten of us, plus two more on the final day, were guided by three amazing Ultimate Hikes guides up the Greenstone Track and much of the way down the Routeburn Track. Because floods in February had caused slips and other major damage to a section between the Greenstone/Caples Track Junction and Earland Falls we were helicoptered between McKellar and MacKenzie Lodges, but we spent two nights at McKellar and did walks morning and afternoon of the day between. Just as we were arriving at Routeburn Falls Lodge Jacinda was announcing that all New Zealanders had 48 hours to get home and stay there for a month, due to COVID-19. So we were helicoptered out and bused to Queenstown. Thus endeth a most amazing and enjoyable few days with the best tramping company ever!
Thanks Ultimate Hikes for the map.

We Love Ultimate HikesWe had an absolutely incredible hike, thank you Ultimate Hikes!
Our guides were excellent. Tiana is the happiest, most exciting person imaginable, Georgia is so inspiring, joyful and thoughtful, Paul kept us all cheerful and organised through some stressful times and Lilly has an incredible knowledge of the flora and fauna along the track and a delightful accent. The Lodges are out of this world, five stars in the wilderness and the food is delicious. The Lodge staff are efficient, helpful and enthusiastic. The organisation of our hike was caring, faultless and meticulous. When word came that we had 48 hours before corvid-19 lock-down an incredibly well-oiled machine swung into action and we could just relax as we were whisked out of there. Then they gave us huge refunds because we didn't do the whole track. But we loved Scotty's chopper hops! We'll all be back, Ultimate Hikes, just make sure you're all still there too! Christine managed to join us up on the hill after all!
